Die britische Band FREEDOM gründete sich 1967, als nach dem Riesenerfolg von PROCOL HARUM's Welterfolg "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" zwei Musiker, nämlich Trommler Bobby Harrison und Gitarrist Ray Royer, die Band verließen und eben FREEDOM gründeten. Die beiden wollten härteren progressiven Bluesrock spielen, wie er damals durch CREAM und TASTE schwer angesagt war. Nach dem Soundtrack-Album "Black & White" zum gleichnamigen Film von Tinto Brass sowie zwei heute sehr gefragten Singles in Deutschland war der Titel des ersten regulären Albums der Band
"Freedom at Last" eher als Wortwitz zu verstehen, es war mitnichten "das letzte" Album der Band. Das Album entstand 1969 im Studio Orange in London in der Besetzung Bobby Harrison (drums), Gitarrist Roger Saunders und Bassist Walter Monagham und wird zum ersten Mal seit fünfundvierzig Jahren von Sireena Records erstmals wieder auf Vinyl veröffentlicht. Für FREEDOM lief es damals eine ganze Weil sehr gut, zumal der Manager von BLACK SABBATH sie unter ihre Fittiche nahm und ihnen eine Menge guter Konzerte auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks besorgte. Nach zwei weiteren Alben, die auf dem legendären Vertigo-Label erschienen, war 1972 trotzdem Schluss mit der Band.

Dieses Album, das nun auf 180 Gramm schwerem Vinyl erscheint, bietet 12 psychedelisch angehauchte und schwere Bluesrock-Titel in der für die damalige Zeit typischen Spielkultur, die zu einem echten britischen Gütebegriff wurde und durch Bands wie Led Zeppelin, Spooky Tooth oder Cream Weltruf erlangte.
